Chautauqua Series Summary Emmeline Elliott
The Madison Area Arts Council held its first Chautauqua Series event Tuesday, July 14 and featured Angie Christiansen. The Madison artist gave a demonstration workshop at the Madison Public Library.
Christiansen brought a window pane on which she had made an outline of a snowman. She painted the pane during an hour-long presentation and displayed techniques used so a completed picture was revealed on both sides of the window. She also brought window panes that showed in six steps how she does a window painting.
While she painted, Christiansen talked to the audience of 18 about her artwork and answered several questions. One of the younger audience members asked what her favorite color was, and Christiansen replied it was mustard. She said she likes colors found in food and colors that come from mixing other colors together.
Christiansen said her favorite project was painting murals in her children’s bedrooms. She shared pictures of her son’s sports-themed room and of a nursery.
At the end of her presentation, Christiansen drew names from a basket and gave away the piece she had just painted and a piece she had brought along, a three-paned window with snowmen on one side and flowers on the other, to two audience members.
Christiansen said she would like to finish enough window pane paintings to have a show later in the year.
